Meet Dr. Wendy Yasinski

Registered Psychologist | Doctor of Marital and Family Therapy (DMFT)

I work with children, teenagers, adults, and seniors, providing counselling across a wide range of emotional, relational, and life challenges. I also facilitate specialized group therapy at various times throughout the year. Please contact the office to learn about current group therapy being offered.

Behind every session is a real person who genuinely cares about your story. With over 24 years of experience walking alongside children, teens, adults, couples, and families, I bring both professional expertise and heartfelt compassion into the therapy room. My approach is grounded, respectful, and deeply attentive to the unique journey each person carries.

I have supported thousands of therapy clients and facilitated hundreds of group therapy sessions over two decades. I have both a Master of Science and a Doctorate, in Marital and Family Therapy. I began my professional career as a Marriage and Family Therapist (MFT). Then in September 2025, I became a Registered Psychologist and I am in good standing with the College of Alberta Psychologists (CAP).

I continue to pursue learning that extends beyond traditional talk therapy, helping me better serve you with a diverse range of evidence-based approaches. Years ago, I trained my Anatolian Shepherd, Bronco, to be an Animal Assisted Therapy Dog. Bronco is now retired, but that experience reinforced my belief in the healing power of connection, trust, and compassion. My dog, Luna, may become a therapy dog herself in the near future. In 2020, I became a trained EMDR therapist to help clients process trauma, as well as other mental health challenges. I am committed to ongoing professional development and staying current with emerging research and therapeutic practices. I believe growth is lifelong—for both clients and therapists alike—and I strive to bring that spirit of curiosity, learning, and personal growth into every therapeutic relationship.

Giving Back Through Community Support

Giving back to the community is an important part of my practice. As a volunteer counsellor with the Disaster Response Network in Alberta, Canada, I provide pro bono counselling services to individuals and communities affected by disasters and other traumatic events. I also offer reduced-fee counselling sessions for those facing financial barriers; please inquire to see if you qualify. My commitment to accessible, compassionate mental health care reflects my belief that everyone deserves support during life’s most challenging times.

Compassionate Support Backed by Experience

For more than 24 years, I have had the privilege of helping individuals and families navigate life's challenges and transitions. Throughout that time, I have worked with thousands of therapy clients and facilitated hundreds of group therapy sessions, supporting people through periods of growth, healing, and change.

My approach combines professional expertise with genuine compassion. I strive to create a space where you feel safe, respected, understood, and supported as we work together.

How I Walk Alongside You in Therapy

I want to understand your unique circumstances, because no one else is exactly like you. You are the expert in your own life. I don’t assume to know what you need. Instead, I begin each session by meeting you where you are, listening to what is most important to you and exploring how I can best support you in that moment. Together, we work toward goals that are meaningful and relevant to your life, experiences, and personal journey.

My approach to therapy is grounded in:

Warmth and empathy, so you feel safe, seen, and respected.

Honest and gentle direction, to increase awareness and explore new possibilities.

Collaboration, so we work together toward the goals that matter most to you.

Trust and emotional safety, built over time through a strong therapeutic relationship.

My role is not to tell you how to live your life, but to walk alongside you, helping you better understand your experiences, recognize your strengths, and move toward the changes that matter most to you.

You already have strengths — some you recognize and some we may uncover together. Challenges can feel exhausting or unchangeable, but you do not have to face them alone. Together, I can help you build a calmer, more confident, and more empowered way of living.

Grounded in Real Life, Not Just Theory

While professional training is important, I believe some of the most meaningful lessons come through lived experience.

Like many people, I have faced challenges, transitions, disappointments, and periods of personal growth throughout my own life. These experiences continue to shape my understanding of the counselling process and remind me that change often takes courage, patience, and support.

I actively apply the same tools, strategies, and principles that I share with clients. This allows me to approach therapy not only from a professional perspective, but also with genuine empathy and respect for the work that personal growth requires.

Real change is possible—and you don’t have to do it alone.

Evidence-Based Support You Can Trust

I use evidence-based approaches to support meaningful, lasting change—always tailored to your unique needs and goals.

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR)

EMDR is a powerful, evidence-based therapy that helps the brain process and integrate difficult experiences, emotions, beliefs, and memories that may be contributing to current challenges.

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)

CBT helps you understand the connection between your thoughts, emotions, and behaviours, giving you practical tools to manage stress, anxiety, and everyday challenges.

Solution Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT)

SFBT focuses on your goals, strengths, and what’s already working, helping you move forward with clarity and confidence rather than staying stuck in the past.

Family Systems Therapy

Family Systems Therapy looks at how your relationships and patterns of connection influence your wellbeing, supporting healthier communication and stronger relationships over time and across life seasons.

A More Personal Approach to Therapy

I believe therapy works best when people feel genuinely heard, emotionally safe, and supported without judgment. Every person's story is different and I approach counselling with compassion, curiosity, and respect.

For clients who wish to incorporate their Christian faith into therapy, faith-informed counselling is also available.
